The PINEAPPLE THIEF

3000 Days

(compilation)

(2 CD)

(2009)

Disc 1

1. God Bless The Child 4'47
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album Little Man (2006)
Written in the relatively unusual (for rock music that is) time signature of 7/8, I remember spending an age tracking layers of drums, percussion, hand claps and picked acoustic guitars with the band for the first section. Structure wise, it's split into two very different sounding parts, but somehow the acoustic guitar keeps the songfrom drifting apart. Live, it's stripped back to a single electric guitar, hand claps and drums. Both work for me.
2. Shoot First 4'15
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album Tightly Unwound (2008)
Album Illustration and Design by James Stratton.
Illustration shown here by Mark Davies.
Two years on from Little Man, this is the second track from our debut KSCOPE release, Tightly Unwound. By this time, I was drawn to the 7/8 time signature to the point where it sounded more natural to me than the western 'four to the floor1 standard. Dropping out 'the beat' can make the music so much more immediate, almost impatient. But the time signature has to remain transparent, as soon as people start talking about 'time sig's' then I know I'm moving into dodgy territory...
3. Part Zero 7'30
Music and Words by Bruce Hoard
Taken from the album Variations On A Dream (2003)
Album Artwork and Design by Neil Randall
Photograph Shown here by Serge Llorente / www.progptx.com
Originally Written for a cut priced sampler during the Variations Sessions in 2002 (hence the title), this track was finally included in the third TPT album. The sampler track, if you can ever find a copy, has a slightly different guitar solo during the extended outro. I'm not a big fin of guitar solos. The ones you hear on this album I like to describe as 'extendedguitar melodies'.
4. 137 6'02
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album 137 (2001)
Album Photography by Mark Harris
Design by Bruce Soord
Photograph shown here by Scott Robinson
A young and lonely era for my music, locked away in the studio with only my cats and long suffering girlfriend for company in 2000. Thankfully, the melodies and mellotrons have never gone away. The logo shown here is actually the silhouette of a baby (not a frog as many fans have surmised). The baby signified the subject matter of almost all TPT music; birth, life, love, hate and death. However, this logo has not been used since 2003 but can be still be spotted on a few very old t-shirts.
5. We Love You 8'35
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Little Man (2006)
Album Photography and Design by Joe Del Tufo
Illustration shown here by Mark Davies
The closing track to the Little Man album. This track went through a myriad of guises before I eventually settled on this version. The intra sound is actually an old hospital ventilator ...
6. Clapham 4'29
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 10 Stories Down (2005)
Album Illustration and Artwork by Mark Davies
Photograph shown here by Dhinand Kteine
This track was originally featured on the original 12 Stories Down release but I quickly withdrew it from public release. I was pressured to release it too early and it was way short of the mark at the time. This was proving to be a very difficult 4th album. I went back into the studio and re-worked the tracks, eventually releasing it as '10 Stories Down'in 2005 with a different track listing. This is the 10 Stories version. The 12 Stories version is actually quite different, featuring mellotron vibes during the intro instead of the mellotron flutes you can hear on this version.
7. Dead In The Water 5'34
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Little Man (2006)
Album Photography and Design by Joe Del Tufo
Photograph shown here by Serge Llorente / www.progpix.com
The opening track from the Little Man album, the sound at the beginning is actually my guitar lead buzzing as I plugged it in to record the guitars. I chopped it up and turned it into a loop. I was never happy with the version of this track on Little Man so I'm glad I had the chance to rectify that. Compare this to the album version and you'll hear what I mean ...
8. Kid Chameleon 7'02
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 137i> (2001)
Album Photography by Mark Harris
Design by Bruce Soord
Photograph shown here by Joe Del Tufo
Back in the old days, I was alone with my EMU sampler and my guitar. This is probably my Javourite track from the 137 alburn and it still appears in our live set from time to time.
9. Tightly Wound
(Acoustic) 5'34
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the EP, Dawn Raids Volume 2 (2009)
EP Illustration by James Stratton
Photograph shown here by Mark Austin
I recorded this acoustic version of the (almost) title track from our last release for the limited edition Dawn Raids EPs. I decided to include this version because I like the stripped back feel. The album version is entirely different.
10. Remember Us
(Acoustic) 6'08
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Variations On A Dream (2003)
Album Artwork and Design by Neil Randall
Photograph shown here by Marianne Harris.
The closing track to Variations On A Dream this is a longer piece, but really it's four separate pieces joined by the 'remember us' chorus. This is another song trying to justify existence. It never does. This track had to be included due to the number of fans citing it as their favourite TPT release. Never played live and I doubt we ever will. That's not to say I don't like it ...

Disc 2

11. The World I Always Dreamed Of 7'12
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 10 Stories Down (2005)
Album Illustration and Artwork by Mark Davies
Violins by Richard Hunt
Photograph shown here by foe Del Tufo
A simple song about loss. Again, this is a slightly different edit to the 12 Stories' version. If features layered violin parts from my old school boy chum, Richard Hunt. Tins track was recorded shortly before I relocated and rebuilt my studio, the one that is now TPT headquarters.
12. Wretched Soul 5'00
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 10 Stories Down (2005)
Album Illustration and Artwork by Mark Davies
Photograph shown here by Bruce Soord
I remember this track vividly. Originally, I released it on 12 Stories Down as a bonus track. I never actually intended it in be on the final album. Then everyone told me I was being stupid, so it was promoted to track 3 if 10 Stories Down. It's quite ë lot heavier than many TPT tracks at the time. I spent an age agonising over the snare drum, it's pushing it. l\'c managed to get even more juice nut of the mix for this issue ...
13. All You Need To Know 4'14
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, What We Have Sown (2007)
Album Design by Simon Evans
Photograph shown here by Joe Del Tufo
The opening track from the 2007 oddity. This album was originally a low key release, comprising a collection of unreleased songs and re-works I found in the TPT archives. This track was actually destined for 10 Stories Down but somehow I lost it along the way. I'm not sure why. For the album, I also let loose and indulged in a 27 minute epic, confusingly titled What Have We Sown?. Sadly, there was no room for that track here, which has ironically become a favourite for a distinct proportion of fans.
14. Vapour Trails 8'58
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Variations On A Dream (2003)
Album Artwork and Design by Neil Randall
Guitar drone in middle section by Will Torrens, backing vocals by Lib by Bramley
Photograph shown here by Marianne Harris
The third track taken from Variations for this compilation. The drone in the middle section was sent to me by a Canadian fan called Will Torrens. In fact, he was one of the small group of people who contacted me very early on. If I remember correctly, it's guitar feedback through a small practice amplifier being swung around ...
15. How Did We Find Our Way 3'56
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 137 (2001)
Album Photography by Mark Harris, Design by Bruce Soord
Photograph shown here by Scott Robinson
Nothing much to say about this one. It's just a melancholic love song. I was tempted to remove the flutes in the intro, but ...
16. I Will Light Up Your Eyes 7'24
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, 10 Stories Down (2005)
Album Illustration and Design by Mark Davits
Another melancholic love song. Again, this one was released as a bonus track on 12 Stories before people begged me to include it on the official 10 Stories release. This is actually the first part of the song. This actually has some hope. The second half has none ...
17. Subside 5'01
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Variations On A Dream (2003)
Album Artwork and Design by Neil Randall
Photograph shown here by Serge Llorente / www.pragpix.com.
The opening track from Variations. Minimalist influences, probably the simplest song I have ever written. And it's another sons about loss ...
18. Private Paradise 11'46
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Abducting The Unicorn (1999)
Album Artwork by Bruce Soord
The very first TPT song ever written, back in 1999. Originally, the album was to be called Abducted At Birth - hence the baby related cover and logo. However, at the time I was unknown as a solo artist and was told to include a reference to my former band, 'Vulgar Unicorn' in the title. Reluctantly I did so. Either that, or the release wouldn't happen. 3000 days later, it's just as well.
19. Snow Drops 5'57
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Little Man (2006)
Album photography and design,by Joe Del Tufo
Photograph shown here by Emma Higgins
This sombre piece is salvaged from the depths of melancholia by the mass clapping during the outro. Recorded firstly at a TPTgig in the UK and later in the USA. Both were then mixed together to form the sound you can hear on this song. I'll always sing this one live ...
20. Too Much To Lose 5'57
Music and Words by Bruce Soord
Taken from the album, Tightly Unwound (2008)
Albu?n Illustration and Design by James Stratton
Photographs shown here and Overleaf by Scott Robinson
This is the final song from the most recent TPT album, Tightly Unwound. So it seemed like an appropriate way to close this chapter. A song about birth, life, love, fear and death. As always.

In 1999 Bruce Soord decided to venture into his studio to try something alone. 3000 days, a full band and seven albums later, this is what you get.
A collection of songs from their ten year history so far, lovingly re-mixed and re-mastered by Bruce Soord and Steve Kitch at the recently refurbished studio at TPT HQ, somewhere in deepest and darkest. Somerset, U.K.

    1. God Bless The Child

Oh my love what have I done?
Well, I'm not doing it anymore
      (so take my mark).

I'm done for (so god bless the child).

Take my mark and hold it tight,
take my mark and use it right.

    2. Shoot First

Your heart, is tearing me apart.
Shoot first, you know it's gonna hurt.
      The blood flows.
For what? I'll never know ...
Your poor heart, is tearing us apart.

You're a beautiful soul, in a beautiful world.
But a world was left behind.
      And I know, it's alright.
      And it hurts, it's alright.
It'll hurt till the day you die.

    3. Part Zero

I can't remember what to do.
      To ease the pain.

Why am I writing this for you?
When it's all in vein ...

      I'm doing all I can.
But all I get is a suicidal plan.

And I will listen while I can. And I will try to understand.
      But it's not enough.

      I'm doing all lean.
But all I get is a suicidal plan.

      4. l37

        Throw the day, with me.
        It is alright here.
        It is alright.
Walk on and wish with me. It is alright here. It is alright.

And I will long to be you.
Too long, too long to wait for.
        Pieces don't fit.
        Aren't fit to be you.
        It's gone.
        You're gone.
(this is not what you want).
        Find another way, than me.
        It is all out there?
        There's nothing out there.

      5. We Love You

So you wonder if there's anything left in this one horse town?
I wonder what you'd get, if I never was around?
Don't you know we love you?

        We Love You.

I have given you ail my heart in this one horse town.
You should thank your lucky stars, thank them you were found.
'cos you know we love you.

        We Love You.

Oh I know you must be frightened in this one horse town.
Come into my arms and kiss this sacred ground,
'cos you know we love you.

        We Love You.

        I need your soul.
        To feed my world.
        We need your soul.
        To feed our world.

      6. Clapham

You're here, with no where left to go.
You've no where left to go.
You fear, you're facing this alone.
        You're facing this alone.
So I'm singing this for you so you don't have to This is something to live for. Tell mc it's something to live for because I don's have more.
You feel, there's nothing left to say. There's nothing left to say. You feel, you slowly fade away.
        You slowly fade away.

So I'm singing this for you so you don't have to,
This Is something to live for.
Tell me It's something to live for
        because I don't have more.

You feel, there's nothing left to say.
        There's nothing left to say.
You feel, you slowly fade away.
        You slowly fade away.

So I'm singing this for you so you don't have to,
This Is something to live for.
        How could you need more?
And now thcte's everywhere to go.

      7. Dead In The Water

        One day, the last day.
        It was beauty to hold.
Take back, I would take back.
        I would claw back.
        What they stole.

Hold on, just a little kit longer.
I'll hold you when you're dead in the water.

Cry out, don't you cry out.
        They won't answer your call.
Sense of, make some sense of?
Just don't try it, at all.

Hold on, just a little bit longer.
I'll hold you when you're dead in the watet.

      8. Kid Chameleon

I was a stalker to your king.
While I am here, you can explain.
        It's not my name...

I was in love with all it came.
No one can separate my pain.

Without someone, we are all waiting to go down.
Without someone, we need a needle to come round.

      9. Tightly Wound

Look what you've done you hopeless dreamer.
Your poor little feet just take you where you've been before.
Run like the wind to get your own back.
Look what you've done, you've made me throw up on your floor.

        We've lost our time.
        No time, to tell you.
        What I wanted to say.
        You were my dreamer.

Look what you've done, the hopeless dreamers.
Shot to the head there's nothing anyone can save.
Look in my eyes and beg forgiveness?
Look what you've done, you've ruined everything we made.

        We've lost our time.
        No time, to tell you.
        What I wanted to say.
        You were my saviour.

      10. Remember Us

        I know everything.
We say no, but it doesn't mean a thing.
        Follow everything.
But we know, it doesn't mean a thing.

        Come on, it's over.
        Remember us when we're gone.
        It's over for sure.

      11. The World I Always Dreamed Of

        I'm waiting for,
        what am I waiting for?
        There's something more,
        there's something more?
        And what you said,
I think about you said, for evermore, evermore.

And there's nothing else I can do
so I'm shouting this out for you
no there's nothing else I can do
so I'm shouting this out for you
and I know you'll never hear me
and I know there'll never will be
the world I always dreamed of
the world in which you are part.

        Keep on going,
        we keep on going,
        relentlessly,
        relentlessly.
        And glowing,
        we keep on glowing,
        hopelessly.
        Hopelessly.

      12. Wretched Soul

        I've got a wretched soul
it'll turn it's head and throttle you.
        I've got a wretched soul
it's tearing at the heart of you.

        So don't waste time here,
        or show fear.
Or show that you are afraid ...
        There's hell to pay.

I've got a wretched soul I let it get a hold of me.
        I've got a wretched soul,
it's tearing at the heart of me.

      13. All You Need To Know

So this is where I hurt.
You know I won't make it?
        And everyday it hurts.
You know I can't break it?
        I won't break it.

I never want to know what you mean to me.
        All I need to know
I need to know that you are here with me.

Consider where I hurt. You know your love breaks me?
And I will make you hurt.
You know I can't break it?
        I won't break it.

I never want to know what you mean to me.
        All I need to know.
I need to know that you are here with me.

      14. Vapour Trails

        We're flying too low.
        And trying to go far.
        But finding it hard.
We've your vapour trails to follow.
        You home.

        We're flying too fast.
        And finding it won't last.
        But something will pass ...

      15. How Did We Find Our Way

        Long ago.
I remember every minute of the days would go.
So fast we didn't notice we were here to stay.

How did we find our way?

Please, lose yourself for a night.
Let mc take the weight away from you tonight.

        Far away.
We couldn't see the picture that we made today.
It's hanging on it's own but we are here to stay.

How did we find our way?

Please, lose yourself for a night.
Let me take the weight away from you tonight.

      16. I Will Light Up Your Eyes

        I - I.
        Won't you sow.
        Some light in here?
        The faintest glow.
        Is getting near...

And I will light up your eyes.
        And I won't go.
        Until I see.
        The faintest glow.
        Is enough for me.

And I will light up your eyes.

      17. Subside

        And all our worlds subside.
        With everything inside.
        And always wonder why
        (we carry on)
        And always wonder why
        (see sing this song)
        And always wonder why
        (we carry on)
        And always wonder why
        Now you are gone.

        We'll carry on.
        We'll sing this song.
        To carry on.

      18. Private Paradise

        Everything is blind.
        The joke wears thin.
There's no where else to hide.
Your sacred words begin to drown, all reason
        out of our darkened bed.

        And everything you touch.
        And everything you find.
        And everything you feel.
        And everything in kind.

        You want him for yourself.
        To save your skin,
        A private paradise.
        We won't go in.

        You watch it.
You watch it all grow tired.
        You watch it...
        We make the same mistakes.
As if it's all mapped out.
There's no where else to take.
        It all comes round about.
        Wasting all out hearts.

      On something cold like this.
Makes me wish the fantasy was a badly written
      script.

      You want him for yourself.
      To save your skin.
      A private paradise.
      We won't go in.

      You watch it.
You watch it all grow tired.
      You need him...
You need him when the same old sun
keeps blinding your precious, tiny mind.

      And everything you touch.
      And everyrhing you find.
      And everything you feel.
      And everything in kind.

      You want him for yourself.
      To save your skin.
      A private paradise.
      We won't go in.

    19. Snow Drops

The day breaks your battered heart.
The sun rips your world apart. And we will see it fall.

Live each day as it is your last.
A life lost in a photograph.
And we will join them ail.

      We are all falling snow.
So settle down, just settle down.
And I will slow your fall. That is all. That is all.

      We are all falling snow.
So settle down, just settle down.
      And in amongst them all.
      The Little Man stands tall.

    20. Too Much To Lose

Who do you think you are?
I won't let you crawl that far.
It's too much to bear, too much to lose.
You don't want these dead man's shoes.

Because I don't want to hurt you.

Who do you think you are?
Who let you crawl this far?
Who stole your heart, who killed the stars?
You won't know who they arc.

Because I don't want to hurt you.

No, I don't want to hurt you.
